Do you really want that promotion?
Do you really want that promotion?
A lot of people seem to devote their life to their career; all they seem to care is their jobs. As soon as they can have a promotion they will jump on it. Don’t get me wrong it’s perfectly find if you choose that path and you are totally happy with that. The only thing I’ve seen is that a lot of people think they want it and in fact they don’t. Before you take the decision think about want it really represent for you and your family. It may seem that there is no negative effect with that decision because you will earn more money so you will be able to buy a new car for your spouse, maybe buy a bigger house, or purchase the new flat screen TV, but ask you that question; is that going to help me with on my self improvement ?
Pros and cons of this decision:
Before you decide what you want to do weigh the pros and the cons of that large decision.
What are the pros of that promotion?
Your boss will probably offer a better salary with that promotion, to be honest it’s an important pros. Money don’t buy happiness, but money is important in our world. Keep in mind that you will never have enough money so if you goal is to always have more money in your bank account you will never be happy. You need to know when to stop and how to be happy with want you have. We’ve been tough at a young age that money is very important and that if you want to be happy you need to have a good job to earn a lot of money. However, as an adult you need to know when you have enough and how to be happy with it.
A bigger responsibility is another pros you might get, if you love to be in charge and have people working for you it can become an opportunities for you. A lot of people cherish the dream of becoming a success man and to have a lot of people working for them, but don’t over think that. It’s not because you’ve always dream of that that you still want it you got to think of want you really want now. The person you’ve become may not want that anymore!
What are the cons of that promotion?
The biggest con I see is your family. How they would react if they find out that you accept a job but you need to do overtime every day and you don’t have time to go to the kid’s baseball game anymore. With bigger responsibilities come more problems, have you think of what you will do if you have to finish a project during the week end, do you really want to work during the week end? There is a lot to think when you have to take such a large decision.
Ask you these questions:
Are you ready to bring some extra work to your place so you can finish working late in the evening or during the week end? Are you ready to have less time with your children and spouse? Do you really need that extra money is it just your ego talking?
