Chapter 1

Introduction: healthy lifestyle

You’ve just gotten up from your couch. Your legs are weak. You have a headache, and your back hurt really bad. You look at the clock it’s 1:30 am; no wonder you don’t feel good you’ve just passed the last 6 hours in the same position looking at a 52 inch screen! There is an empty bag of chips on the floor and half of the cookie box is empty. In does situation we may hear the little voice in our heard say: “wake up! You big fat couch potato, you’re out of shapes and all you do after work is listening to T.V. So get up and start eating healthy and go out to run!!” What are we doing when we hear that voice? There are two things we do; the first one is that we will listen for a week and then go back to our old routine, or we really don’t want to listen to that voice, and we open another bag of chips. Both are bad, well the first one is a bit better, but the result is the same at the end of the year we look at what we’ve done and the active lifestyle is not in there.

There are millions of people around the world that are like you, don’t be shame to say that you are a “couch potato”; instead do what you can to change for the best. With all the technologies around us, it can be difficult to go out and be more active. The same goes with our eating habit; our life is so busy we don’t have time to cook a good old healthy meal, so we take a frozen meal and put it in the microwave. Plus there is the car, why would you walk or take your bike if you have a car park in your garage? It’s easier to take your car, even if your destination is in a walking distance.

That lifestyle can become more worrying when your doctor tells you that you need to start being cautious of your health. That you need to eat healthier and become more active, before your heart stop! Nobody wants to be in that situation. This is why you need to be ready to do something for your health. Maybe you eat pretty well, and you are active a little, but do you think you do all you can to be healthier. If your answer is no, choose to be more active. Look how I’ve use “choose” and not “try”. If you try to do something you probably won’t, but if you choose now you are talking. So are you ready to choose?

You need to choose to change if you want to listen to the little voice in your head for more than a week. At first it can be really difficult to change your routine. Your couch and your T.V. will be calling you, and you will have to listen to the voice in your head that you know is the good one. If you choose to be healthier you will be. There is no doubt about that, but you need to keep your motivation. This is why I’ve decided to write that series of articles to help you in the first few week of your new lifestyle. This series of articles is written chapter by chapter like a book, you can choose to read one page at a time, or you can skip to the topic you want.
